| HEARTS OF BLACK SCIENCE is Tomas Almgren (Synths/Computers/Effects) and Daniel Änghede (Vocals/Guitars/Bass). November 2005 childhood friends Daniel Änghede (Vocals, Guitars, Bass) and Tomas Almgren (Synths, Programming, Beats) were brought together again when Tomas returned to Sweden after seven years in London and Berlin. Tomas had been persuing a promising career as a horror movie director as well as forging robotic mayhem in electro duo Teliaroboten (together with Stefan Englund of Tekstomp / Black and Blue). Daniel was the lead singer and writer in Astroqueen which also included Daniel Tolergard (now the bassist in swedish pop outfit Sambassadeur) but was left bandless after their split-up in 2004. A year later, Tomas moved back home and the two decided to start a band. Hearts of Black Science was born. Tomas and Daniel set up a studio deep within an abandoned subterranean power plant outside Gothenburg. Isolated from the outside world they created a haven and spent the first half of 2006 working day and night. They experimented and developed their own sound, melancholic and sometimes dark pop melodies, yet uplifting and positive all at the same time. Not afraid to be inspired by a broad range of styles and genres, gothic and metal, shoegaze and eighties pop. In April of 2006 the band released a self financed EP that sold out in just 2 months on MySpace and a second EP was released the following month. With nearly three hundred thousand plays they developed a devoted following via the MySpace circuit, and played their first gigs in London and Gothenburg.
